Mazzaferro Design Build Services, Inc., offers custom architectural design, cabinets, and furniture, all locally crafted in the District of Columbia. The business is based on my mission of creating beautiful objects and environments that enhance the lives of those who use them.
I achieve my mission by:
- Listening to clients and engaging with them frequently throughout the design process.
- Offering clients the option to engage as much or as little in the process as they feel comfortable with.
- Being wary of passing trends and limiting their influence.
- Always practicing good design. Good design takes into account factors of art and engineering, and the interplay between them.
- Building to exact dimensions and following good construction practices.
- Planning for surprises – never leaving an installation up to chance.
About the owner:
Designer/Fabricator James Mazzaferro learned to think like an engineer from his father, and began his lifelong study of design in the Virginia Tech College of Architecture. There he spent four years in a design studio environment, exploring concepts, materials, and thought process with the help of amazing faculty, engaged peers, and extensive shop facilities. After earning a B.S. in Industrial Design in 2003, he worked as a journeyman architect for two small firms, where he had access to excellent mentors. The company began four years ago, with side projects for friends and family, and has grown steadily since.
